In many automated processes, it is necessary to vary the output of a power supply. MEAN WELL provides a solution by offering several power supplies that can be remotely controlled from a PLC or other controller through the application of an external voltage.

Two models that stand out are the DRP-3200 and DPU-3200, both of which have PMBus support, allowing them to be integrated into a higher-level control system.

Both the DRP-3200 and DPU-3200 power supplies are similar in functionality, with the main difference being that the DRP-3200 is rack mountable. The mounting chassis is sold separately. These power supplies offer several advantages, including current sharing function, remote on/off and adjustment, built-in alarm signals, high power density and efficiency, and high reliability.

By connecting multiple units in parallel, the current sharing function allows for a higher power output. Up to five stand-alone DPU-3200s and up to eight DRP-3200 rack mount units can be connected in parallel, delivering maximum system power outputs of 16,000 Watts and 25,600 Watts, respectively.

One of the most useful features of these power supplies is the ability to adjust the output voltage or current by applying an external voltage. Voltage can be adjusted within a range of 50% to 125% of the nominal output, while current can be adjusted within a range of 20% to 100%.

PMBus support increases compatibility with higher-level control systems. This allows for the variation of power supply output parameters throughout any process. In addition, TTL alarm signals indicate the status of the DC output and flag if the temperature of the unit exceeds 60°C, making these power supplies well-suited for system-critical applications.

The DRP-3200 and DPU-3200 power supplies are available with either a 24V or 48V DC output, delivering a high efficiency rating of up to 94.5%. They also have a remarkably high power density, taking up only minimal real estate.
